What is #2minPD?

#2minPD (Two-minute PD) is a video series of 2-minute professional development (PD) videos created by educators, for educators. They capture exciting teaching strategies, classroom activities or teaching concepts worth sharing. Selected videos are pushed out to mobile phones each day to teachers who subscribe to receive them.

Here’s the best part: they’re free!

What is the goal of #2minPD?

Give PD back to educators. The collective talent and expertise of the educator community is the best PD there is. Each #2minPD reveals the depth and breadth of that reservoir of talent, giving educators an opportunity to share and learn efficiently and often.

Reach 1 Million teachers daily. Teaching can often feel lonely. The #2minPD movement provides a common learning experience and community for teachers — a community too many teachers miss out on because of time spent in the classroom each day.

Make PD part of educators’ everyday lives. Teaching is more than a job — it’s a way of life. But teachers still need inspiration every day. Each #2minPD provides a daily nugget of inspiration, and each video includes concrete exercises or methods you can try in your classroom each day.

Okay, I’m sold. How do I get involved?

It’s as easy as taking a selfie and then sharing it with others.

What makes a good #2minPD?

Here are the key components of a strong #2minPD. Everything else is up to you.

  1. Introduction: Tell us your name and where you are from (city, state, country if not in the U.S.) and include the line: “Welcome to another 2-Minute PD”.
  2. What: What are you sharing?
  3. Why: Why does what your sharing matter or why is it important?
  4. How: Include concrete steps on how to implement this in the classroom. Be clear in your instruction (ie. “do this…” or “try this.”).
  5. Be sure to include at least one visual.
  6. And, of course, 2 minute PDs must be under 2:30 in length.

And that’s it! You can be as simple (talking head) or as complicated (animation, music, etc.) as you would like. This is your #2minPD — be as creative as you want! And feel free to end your video with your Twitter handle, email or blog information too if desired.
